Iron(Fe) Chef CompetitionThe idea behind this project is that we wanted to be able to learn about chemistry through the chemistry of cooking food and food alone. Before we were given our groups for the competition, we did a lot of research on different cooking styles and different cooking elements. We even got to experience some experiments, one that we did was we ate a miracle berry pill. What the pill does is, it messes with your taste buds and makes things that taste sour taste sweet. I had a lot of fun learning about why and how taste works. After we were done with the learning part, we got our groups and our mystery ingredient basket. My group's basket consisted of chorizo, asparagus, feta cheese, peach, and button mushrooms. As a group we were really struggling to decided what to make, some of us wanted one thing and then the rest didn't want to make that. We eventually decided on making chorizo meatballs with mushrooms inside, asparagus and a peach puree.

Modernist Cuisine Poster |
For our Modernist Cuisine Poster we had to write about the science going on in our dish. Since we were making meatballs in the oven and the asparagus on the stove, we talked about the different types of heats transfers being used in our dish.

Step By Step Video |
We had to make a step by step video of us creating our dish. We were then going to be showing this to the judges on the day of our exhibition so that the judges saw our process since they hadn't seen us cook the dish. None of the people in our group wanted our hands to be in our video so we had our video differently from everyone else.

Reflection |
In this project, I learned a lot of things but one of the things that I know I will always remember is Capsaicin, because I thought it was really interesting how it works. I also enjoyed learning how my group and I dealt with having to cook with a makeshift kitchen. As a group I think we could have worked better, because we didn't always communicate the best, we also disagrees sometimes but other than that I think we did good. If I could change one thing it would be the dish that we made because I feel like we could have done better if we had made a different dish.
