Self Portrait: Artist Statement
Mariana Quintanar
For my self portrait I took a picture of my whole body sitting down because I wanted my portrait to include a lot of background. I wanted a lot of background because it shows a lot of my favorite surroundings. I dont have any props because I don't like to have things in my hand. I like to be able to do spontaneous things. The pose in my picture signifies the essence of appearance, and how people see you. For myself I'm short physically but I embrace that. So in the picture since I'm sitting down it signifies that I am short, but I also have my hands out with peace signs meaning that I'm not always serious about everything.
With the triangles ABC and XYC I was able to draw a diagram showing how I needed my camera set up. From the way that I set up my camera I know that that AB || XY. With know that they are parallel we then know that BAC is congruent to XCY because they alternate interior angles. Angle ABC is also congruent to angle XCY because they are vertical angles. Knowing that we have two angles congruent, we know that triangles ABC and YXC are similar by the Angle-Angle Postulate.
To calculate what height my camera needed to be, I took the height of the frame I wanted which was 50in and divided it by 2. So I got that I needed to place my camera at a height of 25 in. To get the distance between me and the camera, I took 50 from the height of my frame and divided it by 45 which is the height of the film. Then I multiplied my answer by 70 that was my focal length. The distance that I needed in between me and the camera was 2 feet and 3 inches and I got a really clear picture where you could see my face really clearly.

Headlamp Project pol
October Sky
For this project we had to learn about and create rockets. We started with making mini paper rockets, we used straws to launch and test how far they went and if they actually came off the straw. We got to go back and change or remake the rockets to improve them. I remade the cone and then got it to go around 17 feet. There were three major stages of the project, the first one we had partners were we made bigger paper rockets that had to keep an egg launch and land intact. For my rocket our egg did not survive because when I was checking to see if it did I accidently cracked it. The second was where we had to choose to either to make a paper or a bottle rocket. My whole class decided to make bottle rockets. The goal in this stage was to get the highest possible height that the rocket could go, with an egg (it did not matter if the egg was intact or not). The last stage we had to get the highest height and get our egg to survive so that at exhibition people would vote for your rocket to launch that night at exhibition. My rocket ended up being one of the rockets that did launch that night so I really enjoyed the project and the outcome.
